Social Work internship

What we offer within this Social Work internship in Cape Town:
– An internship period of 4 to 10 months;
– Work closely with a specialized Social Worker;
– Working with children / youth with behavioral problems, mostly from the surrounding townships;
– Participate in an intensive accompanying project.

What will you do?

Our client is a “Child Protection Agency”. They have various projects in which they help young people to get back on track and / or protect them. The projects are based on different target groups or end goals. The client is located outside of the city in a 30-minute drive, you also have the option to come here by public transport. Within the position of Social Work intern you will mainly be deployed on the largest project of the organization. This is a project in which boys and girls who have a high chance of taking the criminal path due to background and / or behavioral problems enter a 6-month process.

You guide this “at-risk” youth and their home environment to get everything back in line. After 6 months, they remain under surveillance for 12 months. In addition, they have an aftercare program at the same school where they help children with homework, take care of food, set up activities and arrange transport to home. This is because otherwise the children have to go home alone and there the parents have no supporting role. They also have a project that is aimed at school-leavers (high school), you also have the opportunity to work within these target groups / projects. Your work will mainly consist of guiding the relevant target groups, setting up and conducting various workshops and you can possibly join home visits. Finally, you support with therapeutic sessions.
